What Is Spiritual Direction?

Spiritual Direction is an ancient practice that usually involves meeting with a Spiritual Director about once a month to explore your spiritual life and discern areas where God may be moving. Often this means paying closer attention to your life as it actually is, being present to the divine wherever you find yourself and trusting in what Teilhard de Chardin calls, “The slow work of God.” It is not therapy, counseling, or even truly directive (despite the name!). In Spiritual Direction, you will be with a person who is trained to listen deeply and reflect with you on what is real in your life. Through gentle questions and holding space to process your experiences, your director will help you to focus deeply on how you are facing the mystery of your life. Spiritual Direction is completely confidential.
